Ilse & Jaco

Posted on: Jun 17, 2011 By: JD in Portraits, Wedding
A while back I had the wonderful pleasure of doing a cool little after-shoot with Ilse and Jaco. I can’t even remember when last I had the chance to shoot on an overcast day — which is probably a fair indication of just how good we have it here in the beautiful Cape of Good Hope. But winter was fast approaching and it was looking less and less like bikinis and more and more like pancake weather… Also, it was frickin freezing! But we’re strong like mother Russia, so we packed our bags all the same and headed out to a tiny ... Read More >>

Sunel & George

disclaimer: I’m going to try my level best to avoid making any corny Braveheart quips, but I just can’t promise anything! Plus I was at the business end of a real life mooning by about 16 guys in dresses kilts, so I think I bloody-well deserve some license here. Sunel and George – who is of decidedly Scottish persuasion (you can tell by the kilt) – got married at Clouds Estate near Paarl. Gorgeous setting! What with all the mountains and winelands and such. BEEEEAAUUTIFUL! Made even more memorable by the haunting sound ... Read More >>

Lianne & Guy

It gives me great pleasure to break radio silence and post some pretty pics from Lianne and Guy’s beautiful wedding. Held on the spectacularly picturesque Mont Pellier estate, just outside Tulbach. Set amongst mountains and trees and horses and complete with a beautiful little chapel on top of a hill, overlooking the farm and rolling winelands. what more could you ask for… how bout perfect weather? Check! Beautiful bride? well, no worries there — just see for yourself! Lianne made a stunning bride and the bridal portraits we ... Read More >>

Dini & Frans

High time I updated this post, I guess! Dini and Frans have been married for all of about a month now, cant have “previews” up here forever! People will start to talk! Now if their wedding was anything to go by I’m guessing they’re living it up, soaking it in and still as in love as they look in these here images. An absolute joy to shoot their wedding. Dini looked beautiful! Frans rocked the kilt. We had some stunning light to work with and its always a pleasure when a bride is that chilled out. Just being around her ... Read More >>

Yolande & Willem

So we packed our bags and set off into the great expanse that is the Karoo… a leisurely drive through the countryside and 4 hours (and a gazillion trucks) later we were welcomed by the bright lights of Beaufort West and a big sign proclaiming: LEAVE OUR KIDS ALONE! Scary. The place might be short on water, but its long on friendliness! The locals must certainly be some of the warmest, most outgoing and friendly people you’ll find in this fine country of ours. Well worth having a bit of a chat. We got there late the Friday afternoon. ... Read More >>

Arnelle & Luca

So this was the first time I got to shoot a close friend’s wedding and it makes for quite a change from a usual day at the “office”! No less pressure, by any means, though… but different non the less. For one, I don’t usually have to contend with a chorus of mates ribbing me from the cheap seats! “oi, have you got enough cameras there?”. “Are you sure that lens is big enough!”. “Are you compensating for something?”. “what’s that thing on your lip?” – it was Movemeber, I’ll have you know. Sadly Justin Bieber ... Read More >>

Adel & Marnus

Right then, time for some updates. First wedding of the season goes to Adel and Marnus. Held at the truly beautiful Trossachs – a stunning farm just outside McGregor. The lovely couple booked me into the most awesome little cabin, right on the farm. I could rant on for a good long while about the awesomeness of a weekend spent in a countryside cabin, a bed in front of a crackling fireplace and waking up in the middle of nowhere, in luxurious opulence, with an unobstructed view of the karoo veld rolling out over the horizon in front of ... Jaclyn & Jason

I shot Jaclyn and Jason’s wedding in Jozie a little while back. My first wedding up in JHB and quite the experience. The lovely couple tied the knot in a stunning old church — dont ask me where, I was completely lost for most of the weekend! Whatever you do, don’t listen to those TOM-TOM thingies, they are NOT to be trusted! I’m pretty sure it tried to take us to the dark side of the moon… at one point I was reasonably certain it had actually succeeded. Anyhoooo… the JHB Country Club made for an ... Read More >>

And so the winter is upon us – I am not pleased! I never was one for freezing me jewels off! Overrated, in my opinion… Certainly never got the hang of this whole getting out of bed while it’s still dark outside thing. Just can’t see the appeal, really. But I must admit things have taken on a certain holiday sorta feel, what with Wedding Season being a thing of the past and all. I even got to watch some TV the other night… CRAZY! But before I wind down and completely zone out into holiday mode, I have a wedding or 2 to report ... Read More >>

Phillip & Aldiana

Right then, as promised, a long awaited update! Phillip and Aldiana tied the knot at the Kanu wine estate outside Stellenbosch. You may or may not remember them from their beach e-session posted a wee while back. The service was held in the Kanu cellar between many a barrel of wine — enough to make one pretty darn thirsty, actually. Had loads of fun and some fairly decent light to, although you don’t get as much of it as you’d like these days. stoooopid winter! I cant get over those Autumn colors at sunset tho… all ...
