I haven’t done a maternity shoot in a while – loooong story that, but let’s not get into it right now. Anyhoo… i do so enjoy them, because it gives me an opportunity to try things out, to experiment, to play around with ideas and techniques. Weddings don’t really afford you that sort of luxury. Weddings are fast paced, high pressure environments where you get one shot, one chance, and you have to nail it – every time! No “if”s, “but”s or do-overs! The “Second kiss” just ... Read More >>

E-Shoot: Constance & Ferdi

Posted on: Sep 29, 2011 By: JD in Engagement, Portraits
As a precursor to Wedding Season, which is just ’round the corner, we have now entered Engagement Shoot season. With some clients engagement shoots also mean a long awaited first meeting with yours truly here. Me and Constance, for instance, have been liaising over the phone or by way of emails for the past couple of months and their E-session was a chance for us to finally catch up – face to face. I always meet with clients in the lead-up to the big day, just to go over the last little details and discuss the program, but if you ... Read More >>

Black and white delight

It feels like AGES ago that Arnelle and Luca got married, but here we are preparing for baby #2… and if little Eliah is anything to go by, Arnelle’s gonna have her hands full once his brother arrives. Eliah is quite possibly the busiest little, red headed, Italian boerseun you’re likely to encounter. He makes Dennis the Menace look like a choir boy on Xanax. The mental picture of him dragging The_Girlfriend’s big handbag towards the swimming pool brings an instant smile to my face… but the image of Arnelle, ... Read More >>

Boudoir in the ‘Bosch

Posted on: Sep 26, 2011 By: JD in Boudoir, Portraits
Got to do another boudoir shoot a while back. LOVE these… I love how creative these shoots allow you to be, not to mention the fact that you get some really amazing pics! I’m not against that sort of thing, you know. Plus, its NO-PRESSURE environment. Everything I do is geared towards being relaxed and having fun and, for me, basically just trying out every thought that pops into my head as far as lighting and posing is concerned. Certainly not all of those ideas come to fruition and not all of them make the final cut, but the ... Read More >>

And now for something completely different

Posted on: Aug 02, 2011 By: JD in Boudoir, Portraits
We interrupt your regular programming to bring you this public service announcement! About 2 weeks ago I did a couple of boudoir shoots. It was my first time attempting a shoot like this and it certainly provided a fantastic new challenge. I love trying my hand at a new kind of photography, especially anything to do with photographing people. I’ll admit that I’m not a natural at the landscape stuff, but I’ve vowed to work on that… its harder than it looks, OK! Firstly, for those uninitiated, a boudoir shoot is ... Read More >>

Annene +1

I recently got to spend some time with Annene, her husband Werner and one little unnamed pending arrival at their beautiful home in The Strand. Soon to be mom and dad have decided to wait till the big day to find out if it’s a boy or a girl, so no news on that front just yet… we’ll all just have to be patient, I guess! But how cool is that? can you imagine the anticipation? Don’t think I’d ever be able to do it though… people who know me would attest to the fact that I’m WAY to curious to live 9 ... Read More >>

Sanna & Adi – Engagement Shoot

Posted on: Jul 25, 2011 By: JD in Engagement, Portraits
just a week or so ago I spent an afternoon in Cape Town’s DeWaterkant district with soon-to-be-wed couple, Sanna and Adi. Now generally speaking one might say that July in the fairest Cape is not the best time for a fun, outdoorsy type photo shoot… and generally you would be right! Generally you’d be freezing your jewels off whilst the couple clung to each other like Rageltjie DeBeer and her brother… However the past few weeks haven’t exactly been NORMAL. It’s been bloody balmy, to say the least. Global ... Read More >>

Ilse & Jaco

A while back I had the wonderful pleasure of doing a cool little after-shoot with Ilse and Jaco. I can’t even remember when last I had the chance to shoot on an overcast day — which is probably a fair indication of just how good we have it here in the beautiful Cape of Good Hope. But winter was fast approaching and it was looking less and less like bikinis and more and more like pancake weather… Also, it was frickin freezing! But we’re strong like mother Russia, so we packed our bags all the same and headed out to a tiny ... Read More >>

Jaimie & Kayleigh

Posted on: May 30, 2011 By: JD in Portraits
Had a pretty cool little shoot with these two sisters, Jaimie and Kayleigh, the other day. Not gonna lie to you, the camera was pretty fond of them… and I’m not exactly opposed to AWESOMENESS myself, which is why I’m so keen to share the results of the shoot. But first, a BIG UP to my models! They were absolute naturals. Sure, it helps to have eyes as blue and as deep as all the oceans of the world combined, but these two were hitting poses that’ll have some pro models taking notes! Good job! I’ll be ... E-Shoot: Annebet & Claude

Things have been even crazier than usual here at HQ, hence the complete lack of blogging over the past month! My bad… But with a bit of luck the tardiness and excuses will soon be something of the past. FOREVER! Next month I’ll be stepping this gig up a notch and gunning it out there in the wild as a full-time, pro photographer! No more torturous day jobs and sticking it to “the man”. I’ll finally be working for myself… only problem is, I’ve heard my new boss is a real hard-ass! On the up ... Read More >>
