Ilse & Jaco

A while back I had the wonderful pleasure of doing a cool little after-shoot with Ilse and Jaco. I can’t even remember when last I had the chance to shoot on an overcast day — which is probably a fair indication of just how good we have it here in the beautiful Cape of Good Hope. But winter was fast approaching and it was looking less and less like bikinis and more and more like pancake weather… Also, it was frickin freezing! But we’re strong like mother Russia, so we packed our bags all the same and headed out to a tiny little beach just yonder Camps Bay to brave the chills.
Technically I think it’s probably a tad too small to qualify as an actual “beach”. You wouldn’t be able to parallel park a Mini on it – which I believe is the international qualifying standard for proper beaches. I read it somewhere. But I’ll be damned if we didn’t work the heck outa every last inch of that scrappy little sand patch… partly in an attempt to make the most of the surroundings but I think, in larger part, in an attempt to keep moving and stay warm… and to keep the frostbite from our little tootsies! I’m very fond of my tootsies…
I started off doing some straight-up natural light shots – just using the big softbox in the sky – but it wasn’t long before I felt the NEEEED… the need for SPEEEDlites! So I threw up some lights and proceeded to fool around a bit… which is exactly when I’m at my happiest! Foolin’ around… Got a little somethin’ like this:
